Winter 2025 Newsletter
Dear Students, Parents and Friends:
We hope you all have had a refreshing break. The new year is upon us and we have so many exciting things coming up!
January 29th will be the start of the new year in the Chinese calendar. This year will be the year of the wood snake. It signifies a time of transformation, growth and introspection.
First off, we have several demonstrations for the Chinese New Year in both January and February. They will be held on January 25th in Bellevue Square Mall and on February 22nd in Chinatown at Hing Hay Park. Everyone who is local is warmly invited to stop by and support our school if they’re not already on the demo team.
Also, on Saturday March 1st, we will be holding a potluck at the school after classes have finished for the day. Before the pandemic we annually held such gatherings for the Chinese New Year, and this year we’re bringing it back! Before eating, it is the tradition to have an open practice session for all the students to touch hands with classmates in other programs and to compare knowledge and skills. Xingyi students, Bagua students, Taiji students, and Sanda students can compare their abilities in Tui Shou, Roushou, Luan Shou, and sparring. We will even have a time for the sword students to put on the gear and touch swords. Afterwards we can all enjoy some good food and swap stories!
Of course, we’re not just focusing on competitions and demos. All classes will be learning new information while continuing to review previous techniques. As is always the case, we are committed to providing students opportunities to hone their self-defense and healing abilities in addition to learning traditional forms. It is the belief of both Chang Laoshi and Dr. Lu that it is important to train with purpose.
For the Qigong class, Dr. Lu will be reviewing techniques from last quarter as well as introducing other techniques, specifically sitting and standing meditation techniques for winter as well as the remainder of the Wudang Taiji 13 Dan Qigong.
For the Kids’ Class, Dr. Lu and Chang Laoshi will be reviewing Wudang Cha Quan and two-person staff forms for students as well as preparing them to learn the two-handed sword!
There is no better time than now to come in and train, either in person or online! We can’t wait to see everyone in the new quarter and share our art with you!
Want to go more in depth on a particular subject? Set up a private lesson with either Chang Laoshi or Dr. Lu! Lessons can be either 30 or 60 minutes long depending on your budget. Subjects can cover anything you want to learn or improve upon.
